Help me give my students musical resources to help with literacy and vocabulary!
FULLY FUNDED! Mrs. Helton's classroom raised $295

My Students
My K-5 students enjoy learning music in a variety of ways, from singing to playing instruments to moving. I want to broaden their musical horizons by occasionally including reading into my music classes.
I would like to begin including various books about music, musicians, and musical genres to help my students develop literacy skills, particularly their vocabulary skills.
Reading to children is a proven way to help them develop these skills, as well as get them asking questions and using higher-order thinking skills.
My Project
My elementary students are eager to learn about music, and how music has impacted, and can impact, their lives. From biographies of musicians to silly books with clever rhymes, these books can help students understand how music impacts our world.
Having these books as a resource in music class will help me impart literacy strategies to my students, including building vocabulary skills.
I really believe my students will enjoy learning about all the different people, instruments, and genres represented by these books. The different delivery methods, i.e., biographies, rhymes, etc., will also keep my students interested!
