Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I work with an amazing group of elementary students from transitional kindergarten to fifth grade. The students at our school live in a low income and highly gang influenced neighborhood. Many families are struggling to pay the bills and school is often a safe haven for our students. In addition to that I am an education specialist working with students who have mild to moderate disabilities. The students I work with have a range of learning disabilities which impact their academic progress including students with ADHD and Autism. Our students need a variety of instructional strategies, hands on learning opportunities, visuals and flexible seating to be successful. Regardless of all the difficulties our students face they are excited to come to school, work hard and give their personal best.
My Project
My students will have a variety of activities in which they can learn and practice basic reading and math concepts such as phonemic awareness, letter sounds, number identification and operations. Students will gain more confidence and be exposed to a variety of learning opportunities which will enable them to gain concepts that are difficult for them to learn in a typical classroom environment.
My students require a variety of learning opportunities and experience in order to gain and retain concepts.
These games and hands on activities will allow them to do so and once students gain the skills they will be able to practice more independently and build self-confidence.
