My Project

As a teacher of both Spanish and English, I am always trying to give my students more opportunities to listen and read in their target language. My Spanish 1 students are enthusiastic about learning a new language and love to practice their ability to understand fluent Spanish, one of the greatest challenges to learning a new language. The speakers I currently have in my classroom are at the end of their life and my Spanish-learning students who struggle most frequently tell me that they cannot understand what is being said because of the blurred sound. With a set of quality speakers, my students will be able to clearly hear the sounds of an unfamiliar language and build their comprehension. We regularly listen to music in Spanish while reading along with the lyrics to be able to distinguish individual words, and I am building their confidence to practice pronunciation by singing along!

My English students are hungry for a wider range of novels, poetry, and nonfiction.

While I have many books, I do not have enough display areas to make them all available at the same time for perusal. With additional shelving, I will be able to permanently display all of the books we have available for free reading instead of struggling to rotate my collection in and out of the limited space I currently have. The students I teach are a diverse group with a wide range of interests, so the more books I can make available to them, the better! I frequently have students ask me "What happened to ____ book? I wanted to recommend it to a friend, but it's not there anymore."
