Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
In our school we are working on creating a food pantry and family lounge where families can come to get food and do their laundry. It is our hope that having this community center in our school will allow our homeless families to have a place to go to get much needed food and supplies when they are struggling.
This project is for items for our families that are living in hotels or shelters to when they are using our family community center.
Having items that our younger students can use while their parents are using the community center to do wash or get cooking supplies will enable our students to manage their emotions, build literacy skills, and feel good about themselves! It is just one step that we taking to help our families get back on their feet.
In our community center, we have a laundry room (also funded through DC) where our families will be able to come to do their laundry. These items will be used by our students to create a lounge for our families who bring their children with them. While they are doing their laundry the children will be able to use these resources to help them do homework, build their literacy skills and have some fun! We are so excited about this initiative and can't wait to see how many families it helps!
