Our population hails from numerous countries, speaks more than a dozen first languages and experiences every walk of life. In spite of their differences, all our students share a desire to learn to read and write in English and graduate from high school.
My students look around our classroom and see a reflection of the world.
Their educational backgrounds reflect this diversity. They have strengths and gaps that align with no one else in the classroom. These students need leveled/differentiated texts,and writing projects.
My Project
As teachers we are constantly working to differentiate lessons, reading levels and writing requirements to meet the students at their ability levels. Our goal in this project is to begin a teacher library of resource books that will provide leveled materials to teachers across all content areas.
These books will serve as resources for nearly 50 teachers and provide leveled texts for more than 500 students.
The books in this grant will provide resource texts covering alegebra, geometry, physics, earth science, biology, ecology, world history, US history, and biographies of important Americans., Each text is broken down to four distinct levels from high to beginner without babying the readers. Leveled academic texts are crucial to language development.
