Celebrate Black Teachers and Students
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My students are bright and energetic. They are demographically and economically disadvantaged. Our school is located in an Urban community and is considered highest-poverty. Every student in my school receives free breakfast and lunch. Many students participate in a weekend backpack program where students get a backpack full of food to keep their family economically.
My school is a STEAM school focusing on Science, Technology, Engineering, Applied Arts, and Mathematics. Our lessons are focused around integrating those aspects into each lesson.
My Project
My students are struggling readers and mathematicians. Imagine the possibilities of using cross-curricular activities to promote learning to excel in the 21st century learning. The books requested for my learners are engaging and will bring reading across the curriculum into math.
What an engaging way to start a new lesson, in mathematics, than by reading a story! Each text is grade level appropriate and aligned to our standards the students can enjoy reading over and over. Feeling a sense of success to have another resource that is engaging to make learning fun!
I truly believe these books will open a new learning experience for my students by showing them that what we learn throughout the day intertwines. We no longer want to learn block by block.
