My students are resourceful, creative, and full of questions about life and the world around them! They absolutely love hands-on, active, engaging projects and challenges that allow them to think outside the box to find solutions! They love learning new things in science that help explain the world around them.
Thomas O'Roarke Elementary School is a 5 star school (best rating you can get in Nevada) which is amazing.
This high performing school is great but that means they don’t get any extra funding from the district because they can already perform so more than ever teachers buy things themselves. The school is in the northwest of Las Vegas and has over 800 students. I will be teaching science to the entire 5th grade (departmentalized) so that our students leave our school with the solid foundation they need to be successful in middle school!
Each child is special and has so much to offer the world. I want to help inspire them to go for everything they desire and never settle for less than the best.
My Project
The more students read, the more they grow as a learner. How many books are students reading that are science related or non-fiction? I want to grow my classroom library to help my students learn new things and discover facts about the world around them.
Going through my classroom library, I noticed non-fiction science based books were lacking and I teach 5th grade science and social studies!
I want to build up my library one book at a time to help all my students. Almost every science lesson has a hands on lesson that goes with it but everyone seems to forget there is a great book you could read too! And 5th grade is not too old to be reading picture books!
