My Students

At our school, students are primarily from low-income households. One hundred percent of our students receive free and reduced-price lunch. Though parents try their best to be involved in their students' learning, many do not have the resources needed at home. In addition, we, as teachers, are facing unforeseen challenges daily, due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

As we adjust instruction and methods during this time, we are concerned about the loss of learning because our inquisitive students do not have reading books and library books they desperately need to support their love of reading, as well as meet grade-level expectations.

In spite of these circumstances, we are striving to facilitate literacy as much as possible.

My Project

As we continue to plan this school year, we realize students do not have the reading resources they need when they go home.

By purchasing the myOnReader and myOnNews programs through Renaissance, our students will have available thousands of digital books and daily articles.

In addition, this will benefit our many students without internet access because the books are accessible offline, as well.

Teachers may plan to use this resource as a book study. If we are to go virtual in the winter months, the students will have the reading materials at their disposal.

We have chosen these programs, as they correlate with our STAR Testing Program and Accelerated Reader. Both offer a variety of grade levels and topics for reading.
