My Project

Our students at HHES love to read. We are a Title 1 school. We are requesting several series of early chapter books and graphic novels to create a bridge to reading longer novels. Our students have been asking for the Dragon Masters series as well as more Warriors and Wings of Fire graphic novels. These books will support our students' growing vocabulary achievement by offering picture support to more complex text. Another wonderful series recommended to us is Star Friends.

When our children receive new books, their joy is palpable.

Our library is still growing, as there were many holes in the collection when the permanent librarian arrived. The Elephant and Piggy books had been depleted, and the Dog Man books were tattered and in disrepair. We are reaching out for the opportunity to provide our students with as many choice books as possible. Research has shown that the more a student reads for pleasure, comprehension increases. Our goal is for the HHES library to be the literary and learning hub of the school.
