Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students come to school every day wanting to learn. They are loving and eager to please. They are in a high-poverty, high-needs school district. Many of my students are English Language Learners and are struggling to learn to read and write English. My students come to school already behind their peers. They are struggling in reading, writing and math. They are below grade level and are trying to catch up and meet the same standards set to other school districts. Very few of my students have appropriate books at home. They don't get the exposure and practice to build their reading and fluency skills. I love seeing their faces light up when they finish a book all by themselves.
My Project
My first graders love to read books and show off their new skills. These books are perfect for them. They will be able to read by themselves, with a buddy or to me! They also will be able to use the books and learn how writers write. During the school year each student will publish their own books so having opportunities to read each day is very important.
As the saying goes Today a Reader, Tomorrow a Leader!
I just want to build my students confidence and skills everyday. The games will also be used to practice their reading skills in a fun way.
