My Students
I always tell my students that they're unicorns. "Why?" they ask. I tell them that they are unique individuals. I always tell them, don't be afraid to be unique, silly and always be yourself. It is important to instill confidence in my students since they are English Language Learners.
My students are faced with many everyday challenges by living in a border town.
Living in this small town means that most of their families are separated by the hardships of the US/Mexican border.
We are a dual language school, which means that most of our students only speak their home language and have to learn English. I try to provide meaningful learning experiences by giving my students an equal opportunity to be successful. I provide hands-on activities that makes students want to come to school and learn.
My Project
Do you remember the first time you picked up your first chapter book and fell in love with it? Many of my students do not know what feels like. I strongly believe that my students will become engaged by reading, The Wild Robot in small groups.
Students will be learning essential reading strategies by collaborating with peers reading the same book.
It is important for students to know that by reading, it can open their imaginations and take them to places they'd never imagined. I want to instill love of reading in my students, just like my sixth grade teacher did once many years ago.
