My Students

Our students are rewarded for their hard work to reach or surpass grade level benchmarks in reading. In addition to the inherent reward of success, they get to go on a bowling trip! The trip is funded by outside sources. What we lack are identification badges for our students and volunteers to wear.

We are a Title I school in a neighborhood of low socioeconomic means.

Many of our students are English Language Learners. Some of our students come from homes where time spent reading is not a priority. Our students receive reading support during school from adult mentors who spend 15 hours per week toward reaching the goal of bringing these students to benchmark level or above in their reading.

My Project

Our struggling students do not often receive tangible rewards or recognition for great strides in reading. Our mentors celebrate the students' hard work and achievement by hosting a bowling event. It gives the students something to strive for, an event to remember, and a sense of camaraderie and pride!

Having a set of badges is important for several reasons.

First, the badges identify each student as an achiever. In addition, they provide identification for safety purposes while the students are away from the school campus. Having markers with which we can color-code the badges will help when the students are assigned to teams for bowling. Please help us to continue this important tradition!
