This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Project
Our students with disabilities in our school's Career Technical Instruction program already know what it is like to experience changes, as many of them have been experiencing all sorts of it all of their lives. However, they demonstrate daily that they will not let change stop them or get in their way. They are, and will continue to be, agents of sustainable transformation as they learn valuable skills while developing a welcoming event and space that brings people together.
We believe that reading has the power to help us change the world.
Our students host a weekly reading circle where they invite members of their student body and foster courageous conversations about the things happening in the world around them. They work to develop the skills they will need to navigate those spaces.
They will use the classroom set of the books, “Who Moved My Cheese” to add to their reading circle library and to study how change is inevitable and a necessary part of life. Their weekly reading circle discussions will help our students learn and practice important communication and problem solving skills that they will use when they transition to college and career.
