Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

Every year our school tries to encourage students to read the Sunshine State Young Reader collections. The students have to read the stories and take a short quiz to prove their comprehension. If they pass the quiz, they get a little decal to add to a keychain, and their name called on the news! There is a special treat at the end of the year to celebrate students who have read all 15 of the titles. This year the special treat is a pancake breakfast and boy, are the students reading!

Unfortunately, we end up with a long wait list each year as there is more interest than there is access to materials.

As a teacher with great passion for reading, it always hurts to watch their passion dwindle as they are stuck waiting for their turn. With more access to these special titles, I believe each of the fourth graders can truly become Reader Leaders and develop a lifelong love of reading.
