My Students

I teach a wonderful bunch of first graders every year.

These students come from a variety of backgrounds -that include single family homes, low-income homes, military/deployed parent homes- and I find it my duty to create an atmosphere where optimal learning can occur.

My Project

To be readers, students need to have strong comprehension skills. Students should be able to compare and contrast characters and stories. They should be able to summarize main events in stories and list important details. And, students should be able to draw conclusions using information in the text. With the Comprehension Concepts Teaching Centers - Complete Set - students are given a book that models a specific comprehension skill, plus a high-interest activity that puts each concept into action. With centers that reinforce skills taught in whole group, students will be able to practice and become proficient in reading!

It has been stated that, "Neither comprehension nor learning can take place in an atmosphere of anxiety." With these materials, my students will be given the opportunity to learn in a way that is fun and educational at the same time!
