Help me give my students books, like What Do You Do With a Problem? and The Invisible Boy that I can read during morning meeting that will help develop their social/emotional learning.
I first discovered my desire to teach on a study-abroad trip to Italy. One of the other students on the trip was so PASSIONATE about what she was studying, art history, and I just did not have that same feeling. I knew I needed a change and loved children.
Eight years later, I still absolutely love what I do.
My students are becoming lifelong learners who enjoy coming to school, and I desire to create a space where they can achieve this goal while feeling safe and loved. I can't wait to see what the next 8 (plus!) years bring!
My Project
These books like The Energy Bus for Kids, I Walk with Vanessa, and The Girl Who Never Made Mistakes, will be used during my morning meeting time to enhance students' social/emotional learning. Many of these titles teach empathy, perseverance, and differences.
Students love to be read to.
It helps to convey hard-to-understand topics through story because children can relate to the characters. Morning meeting is a time when my students and I gather and greet each other and set our intentions for the day. It is the perfect time to include a text on perseverance or gratitude or accepting differences. It will start off their day in the best possible way.
