My Students

My students come from very diverse backgrounds. They are all spontaneous, clever students, full of energy! Each student is special to me and our district! The diversity in the student body is great, which makes this place interesting as well as extremely open and accepting. Over the past 20 years, obesity rates in US children and youth have skyrocketed. I plan on putting an end to this, one student at a time, by learning and exercising simultaneously. I can’t picture any student that wouldn’t fit in here. I treat my students as family and I want them to feel the same in our classroom setting.

My Project

The desk treadmill and working while riding bike will provide the vestibular stimulation necessary to prepare my students to sit quietly and listen or complete independent work. These materials will help prime my students for learning in our content area and with many daily living skills. Over the years, many public health, medical, and educational authorities have called on schools to give greater attention to provision of physical activity to students. It appears that the time has come to consider a markedly expanded role for schools in providing physical activity to our children and youth. With the materials requested, that is exactly what I plan to do.
