Your donation went towards a DJI Action 5 camera and many other things for the classroom. Initially the whole donation was supposed to be for the DJI Osmo Pocket 3 camera, however it was out of stock. Instead, Donors Choose had us select the next best option for our needs. The DJI Action 5 with bluetooth microphones has been AWESOME. It came in time for the 7th Grade Ancient Civilizations classes to capture their Arcade Day projects. Students study Greek mythology and make a Bloxels game about a specific myth. Arcade Day is super fun for the 7th graders because they get to share their games with each other and other grades in the school. The high school JV softball team also wanted to see how it worked and tried it out at a game. The lights are set up in the corners of the room so there are no spaces that are too dark. I also set up one of the smaller lights in the computer lab across the hall. That room does not have any windows and gets pretty dark. Having a lamp in there is a real game changer because now the overhead lights can be off, and there can still be a little light on the phone that is in the back of the room. I really loved seeing our classroom transform into a hands-on learning environment where students showed so much excitement. When students first saw the materials - biodegradable pots, soil kits, seeds, moisture meters, and the automatic watering system - their excitement cannot be described. As a teacher, I truly live for these moments. We kicked off with learning stations where students rotated through tasks like research different types of seeds, preparing soil, testing pH levels, and understanding how different light spectrums affect plant growth. Watching them connect classroom learning to real-world applications was powerful. \r\n\r\nOne of the most engaging moment was when students used the soil meters and testing kits to compare soil conditions for different types of seeds. They discussed, hypothesized, and recorded their data like true scientists. They were especially fascinated by the automatic watering system, and several students asked if they could build one at home. This project didn't just teach them about plants - it opened their eyes to sustainability, agricultural technology, and the responsibility that comes with caring for living things. As we move forward, students will continue monitoring the growth of their plants at home by graphing. Thank you for making this experience possible for us.","fullyFundedDate":1746574086695,"projectUrl":"project/rooted-in-science-exploring-plants-dat/9322751/","projectTitle":"Rooted in Science: Exploring Plants, Data, and Sustainability","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Philip","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp8053980_orig.jpg?crop=2448,2448,x0,y122&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1746478942182","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/8053980"},{"teacherId":397803,"projectId":9104110,"letterContent":"Sounds like a simple thing, but having our iPads properly charged each and every day leads to a great learning environment. Students used paper and cardboard to create a city on the Silk Road, then we programmed Sphero robots to travel the Silk Road and describe the different cities that our classmates made. The glue sticks allowed the students to get creative with building their cities.\r\n\r\nReceiving these materials was very exciting for us. With access to high-quality paint supplies and hot glue guns, students were able to construct small-scale chariots with precision and creativity that would have been impossible otherwise. The protective floor coverings allowed us to transform our standard classroom into a true maker space where students could work freely without worry of damaging school property. This created an atmosphere where experimentation was encouraged, leading to remarkable designs as students tested different construction techniques and decorative approaches with their newly available materials.\r\nThis project provided students with an invaluable learning experience that extended far beyond the curriculum. As they collaborated on their chariots, students naturally engaged in problem-solving, spatial reasoning, and historical analysis while developing crucial fine motor skills. Many students who typically struggle with traditional learning methods thrived in this hands-on environment, discovering hidden talents and building confidence through tangible achievements. The donor's generosity didn't just provide materials; it created an opportunity for genuine engagement that awakened curiosity and enthusiasm across the classroom. The pride students displayed when presenting their completed chariots demonstrated how meaningful this experience was for their educational journey and personal growth.Thank you so much.","fullyFundedDate":1735678844196,"projectUrl":"project/construction-zone-building-skills-and-m/8791048/","projectTitle":"Construction Zone: Building Skills and Memories","teacherDisplayName":"Dr. Harnish","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp397803_orig.jpg?crop=863,863,x5,y0&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1694699941435","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/397803"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_71871","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":629,"numTeachers":43,"percentFrplEligible":24,"percentAsian":35,"percentBlack":8,"percentWhite":42,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":7,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"6 - 8","studentTeacherRatio":"14.6:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":false,"titleOne":false,"metroType":"URBAN","ncesMetroType":"CITY_SMALL"},"inStateSupporters":72.9,"schoolId":71871,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Baker Middle School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Baker Middle School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/michigan/troy-school-district/baker-middle-school/71871"}
