Read to Me, Please

My students need 2 iPod nanos to have a way to listen to the digital books I already have. What is missing is the device to play them on.

My Students

Do you remember what it was like the first time you read a book that you couldn't put down? My students have a love for listening and reading books. I have many books that have been converted from cassette to digital form. My problem - there is no technology to play it on. It seems as though there are not enough hours in the day to read them all the stories they want. Adding two iPod nanos will greatly help!

The neighborhood where we are located is changing.

It has become a more mobile population. In addition, we are seeing higher levels of families living in poverty and these numbers keep increasing. My scholars are sweet children who want to learn. They love to read and be read to. We know that the more they are read to, the more they will achieve academically in all areas of their education.

My Project

I am requesting 2 iPod nanos. By using the books I already have digitally, my scholars will have a wide range of books that they can listen to. Using the Nano nano€™s, my scholars will be able to see the book cover of the book they wish to listen to. I will be using these iPod nanos in both our Reading and math blocks (I have math digital books also). Learning to read and listen to someone read are vital components to a great literacy program.

This will allow me to add more books to each nano, since they will be able to see which one they are choosing.

In addition, they will have the opportunity to respond to each story in a variety of ways. This will help them learn to make connections to their own lives, the world and to other stories they have been read to or have listened to.
