Our library is a learning hub in our small, rural school of about 350 students. Here they are exposed to a variety of books, technology, activities, and resources to encourage and grow their diverse interests. They are continuously requesting more and newer books in our library! When I can fill in their specific requests, their excitement for reading grows and they are more motivated to read!
My students want to know more about the earth we live on, the ways the environment works together to create life and the animals and plants that live here (and used to live here)!
They want to understand better why and how living things become endangered and extinct and learn ways to help protect them and take care of our environment.
Over 90% of our students are from lower-income families, and single-parent families, and receive free lunch in our Title I school. A large number of our student population lives between houses of different family members. Our school is located in one of the most rural parts of our county and most are at least twenty minutes away from the nearest public library.
