Reading with expression helps bring a book to life. I want to provide my students with materials to help them develop this skill.
I teach a creative group of 5th grade students who enjoy performing.
However, when they read out loud in class, they tend to do so without much expression. We recently had a Flip camera funded to allow students to really see and hear how they are reading. Now I want to add an iPod touch so that they can make their reading more dramatic. I want them to develop the skill of reading out loud for enjoyment. I want them to then use the King Series in order to help the younger students at our school develop this skill as well.
My Project
The goal of this project is to help my students develop not only their reading fluency and expression, but to help the first graders also. The materials requested will help bring literature to life, and will be fun to perform. We recently had a Flip camera funded, and I want to use that in conjunction with the iPod touch to get my students to dramatically practice their fluency and expression. The tall tale books are perfect for this. I would like to partner with Townsend Press by requesting the "King Series bundle". My students will use the King Series with the first grade class. By taking what they have learned about their own reading, my students will be able to help the first grade students improve their fluency and expression.
We know that the more students read, the better off they will be.
My hope is that by combining the King Series, an iPod touch, and tall tales that my students will not only improve their own reading fluency and expression, but will help the younger students develop it as well.
