Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
"Look what I made, Mrs. Griffin!" is a frequent comment in our library. Students are discovering a variety of new concepts (I-0 blocks, coding) and learning, building, and creating! They are eager to tackle new tasks and are frequently disappointed when their time in the library is up, and they have to leave!
However, I teach at a Title I school with a large ESL population that is almost 100% free and reduced price lunch, and this means that many experiences are out of reach for them.
Despite these obstacles, they are terribly excited about learning. They understand the importance of reading, but many of them have a hard time sitting still long enough for a book to catch their imagination.
My Project
My students love to read, but they also need activity! They need a station where they can read and move at the same time. Exercise bikes would be perfect for this! Extra activity will help them spend more time reading a book. To make this station a reality, I am requesting two sitNcycle exercise bikes for a read and ride station in the library.
These bikes will help high-energy students engage longer with their books.
Unfortunately, there is just not nearly enough active time in a school day for many students. These bikes will not only help by increasing reading time, but they will also give students extra exercise that will increase their attentiveness throughout the school day.
