Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

Read, Regulate, Reward is about supporting the whole child. I am building a brand-new classroom library filled with books so students can find characters, stories, and topics that spark their curiosity and help them develop a love of reading. I am also providing sensory tools, such as fidgets, and alternative seating options, to give students appropriate ways to self-regulate and refocus when they need a moment. Student-chosen incentives, including stickers and other small rewards, will help students feel ownership over their classroom experience and celebrate their growth and effort.

Giving students a voice in choices helps create a sense of belonging and reminds them that this is their classroom, too.

Students provided lists of incentives they would like to see and work towards. Everyday supplies like graph paper, lead refills, scissors, and other classroom essentials will ensure that students have the tools they need to participate fully in learning.

Every book opened, snack shared, fidget used, and small reward earned represents an opportunity to tell a student:

You belong here. You are supported. You are capable.
