My Project
My students always shock me in the best ways. I was told my students can't handle reading Shakespeare, or simply that they could not read it. For the past two years, we have done just that, and they loved it. Now I was only brave enough to do this in my higher level classes; however, I feel it is important to begin to prime their eyes and ears for the different style of language. It's not hard if you understand what the story is.
I want to bring the bard into my intro classes and get these kids to break the box they are being placed in of not being able to do the "simple thing" for reading.
Of course, we should be reading more than just Shakespeare, and many students are turned off at just the mention of his name. So, working our way up to his works, we would be reading more modern works that are a bit more approachable for all students and include the "no fear" editions of Shakespeare's works.
