Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

My students are extraordinary. They come from various cultural backgrounds and lived experiences. Many have faced and/or currently encounter tremendous obstacles and hardships. Yet they come to school every day in pursuit of their education. I love and am continually amazed by my students and their drive to learn, grow, and progress.

Research indicates how critical reading is to cognitive and linguistic development; as such, I have selected books for my classroom library to meet the needs of students with different reading and language proficiencies.

Beyond the obvious academic advantages, people who read are better equipped to understand, empathize, and communicate with others. Readers benefit from improved focus and memory, as well as better mental health and longevity.

The more my students read and process, the more they will learn and make interdisciplinary connections. The more proficient they become both in English and Spanish, the more opportunities they will have in life. I want to provide my students with books they will want to read, books they connect with, and books that make them hungry to learn and read more.
