This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
Our school is located in a suburb outside of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. A majority of the students at our school come from low-income families. The staff at our school will step in, when needed, to provide students with the tools they need to be successful individuals.
George Evans once said, "Every student can learn, just not on the same day, or in the same way."
As educators, it is our responsibility to engage students by creating interactive and meaningful learning tasks. Every day is a new opportunity to change the life of a child forever.
My Project
The students in my third grade class had the opportunity to build their reading fluency and comprehension through a 21st century reading program. This year, each student in my class made progress and improved their comprehension and fluency skills. I hope to reward my students with books such as Fantastic Mr. Fox, The BFG, and Because of Winn-Dixie. A few of the books have been used as read-alouds in our classroom and the students thoroughly enjoyed the stories.
Dr. Seuss taught us "the more that (we) read, the more (we) will know.
The more that (we) learn the more places (we'll) go." I want my students to have the opportunity to choose a brand-new book for themselves. My hope is that they will associate the book with positive emotions and develop of love of reading in each of them.
