My Students

Students in my classroom come from low-income families in Chinatown, Manhattan of NY. My classroom is an ICT class with a mix of English Language Learners and students with disabilities. My students all have different learning needs and academic levels. It becomes difficult planning activities for them to work on individually or to collaborate in small groups. Elementary school years are very important. A strong foundation should be implemented for these students. My students' small accomplishments mean the world to them; it helps them boost their self-confidence and self-esteem.

My Project

Students in my class all love to read and have different interests, especially when it comes to book choices. I think having a new set of books for them to read in school or to take home will help motivate them to read more books.

Reading is important because it develops the mind, it helps readers discover new things, and it helps develop imagination.

Since my school is transitioning into a TC reading and writing curriculum, it would be great to have go-to books recommended by Jennifer Serravallo as well as Grade 1 Fiction/Nonfiction Paired Studies Set and Grade 1 High Interest-Low Readability Set. Having these new books in the library can spark the interest of the various readers in a classroom of mixed learners.
