Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I work in a high poverty school. Most of my students did not attend preschool and receive free or reduced-price lunch. Many of these children are English learners, so while they are learning the essential basic skills for their educational foundation, they are also learning a new language!
My students generally come to me with little or no prior experience with using academic tools such as pencils or crayons.
They make incredible gains in this one short year of school. They are absolutely amazing kids!
My Project
I am requesting a variety of high-quality literary works for my classroom. Some of these titles, such as "The Good Egg" and "The Bad Seed" by Jory John will serve a dual purpose: an in-depth author study as well as lessons in character. It is so important that young children learn to develop good, strong character traits and doing so through book studies just makes the lessons stick that much better while also increasing essential reading comprehension skills. These wonderful works also help instill a love of reading and writing in young children that I hope will follow them throughout their lives.
