My Students

How much technology have you used today? Probably much more than you realize! Today, technology is an important part of our lives. It is also important for success in almost all job fields. My students need to experience the fun of learning through technology and this can be done with Nooks!

Our school is in a rural community in Oregon.

Our particular classroom is a blended classroom with both 2nd and 3rd grade students. Our unique classroom dynamic offers many diverse learning opportunities, but we also face a lot of challenges having to learn two separate sets of curricula and different grade level specific skills. My students are eager learners and enjoy hands on activities. Because of the nature of our rural community, they are accustomed to limited technology use in their homes and at school.

My Project

Nooks would enhance our learning environment immensely. There are countless apps that students could use to practice their math facts, current math skills, reading comprehension strategies, fluency, phonics skills, and so much more! There are also listening libraries we could access so my students struggling with fluency could "read with an adult" on their level. Nooks would allow for increased interactive differentiation across my classroom and would increase engagement during independent work times. As skills and needs change, the Nooks will change too. The possibilities are endless to how much these tools would impact our classroom.

As a new teacher in this school district I was astounded by the lack of technology that my students had access to.

At previous teaching assignments, I witnessed how many great learning opportunities come from a tech-savvy classroom. Furthermore, technology and the ability to use it with ease has become a nonnegotiable skill in the professional world. The benefits from using Nooks in my classroom would extend well beyond this year and into a lifetime of Reading, Math and technology success!
