My Students

Our school is located in a transient, high poverty area. My classroom consists of 24 students. Of those students, 3 are high performing first graders, one receives Special Ed services for autism, two are in the referral process for Special Ed (one for reading disability and one possible Autism) and three are in speech. In our classroom we believe that everyone can succeed at high levels and we have become each other’s cheerleaders. These students support each other not only in their learning but as well as the many different personal matters their peers may be facing. They truly care about each other!

My Project

This set will allow for flexible seating in our classroom. Students can spread out through the room and choose where they work. They can sit at the table and comfortably work independently, in partners or groups. My students love to be able to choose their work space and this table would add to the few spaces my students have to choose from. The table and chairs are perfect height for my second graders to write or read comfortably. Engagement is huge for young leaners and seating choices contribute to student engagement!
