Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
This is my fifth year at a Title I school located in east Portland, Oregon. Most years I have had 4-7 different first languages spoken in my classroom. Students come from diverse and rich cultural backgrounds, and I become a learner along with them each year. They are eager and hopeful, and they gain so much when we have the tools and resources to support their learning and growth. Students in my class are excited for second grade and appreciate the support!
My Project
Reads alouds that promote and teach students about inclusion, diversity, and empathy from multicultural perspectives are so important! I’m slowly building a classroom library of beautiful read alouds that represent the diversity of my multicultural classroom. These books are so important in affirming students and their various cultural identifies.
The books I’m requesting cover topics in civil rights history, inclusion, empathy, family, diversity, inspiring females around the world, and so much more!
Each of these titles were carefully picked with consideration of each and every one of my students. They will appreciate the diversity of stories and characters that each offer.
