My students are amazing! They come with tenacity, creativity, and a wide variety of experiences and gifts. We work hard every day as scholars, artists, critical thinkers, and friends. Together we imagine new possibilities for our community, our country, and the world.
At our school, 96% of students qualify for free or reduced-price lunch, and 92% of the students are students of color.
My students have come from many different parts of the world including Ecuador, Mexico, Guatemala, El Salvador, Honduras, Ethiopia, Somalia, and the United States. The majority of my students are learning English as a second or third language.
My students are the engineers, pilots, dentists, poets, and architects of the future. These students have the capacity to achieve greatness.
My Project
Every morning I read a picture book to my students. My students thrive on our daily read aloud--it helps us build our literacy skills, social emotional skills and gives us strong, collective experiences. These picture books will give my students an outlet for their imaginations, feelings and satisfy our need for normalcy.
The 2021-2022 school year has been eventful and challenging.
My students have experienced so much and, yet, every day they show me how resilient they are.
There are so many amazing books in this project, such as: "The 1619 Project," "Stacey's Extraordinary Words," and "We Are Water Protectors."
These are books that we need in our classroom. Students will be able to see themselves represented and put themselves in other's shoes as they listen to these books. My students will be inspired, engaged and positively impacted.
