I work with Head Start children. Head Start is a federally funded program that supports children of poverty. I am these children's first teacher, and this is their first experience in school. Many of my children come from diverse backgrounds and are language learners.
Many of my children have had to become resilient at such a young age due to their home life and other circumstances they have had to experience.
My classroom becomes a safe place for my children. In a safe classroom with consistent routines and structure, my children are able to thrive.
My Project
Many of my children are language learners when they enter my Head Start classroom. With a listening center, my children will hear the English language which will help them build their oral language skills and vocabulary.
Young children love listening to read alongs.
Read alongs have many benefits for young children. Children can also build social skills while at the listening center. They will learn how to take turns turning the page and how to interact with a peer while listening to the read along.
My children will benefit from another opportunity to being exposed to literacy. Multiple exposures to literacy will certainly help my children develop their oral language.
