This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Children like to choose their own books, but when it comes to finding the right book, they don't always find something interesting to them.

My students are third and fourth grade special education students and live in a low-income area in the South Bronx.

Most of my kids are struggling readers and many of them don't have access to books that are just right for their reading level. They love learning and they love to read. I want to provide them with books that will help them grow as readers. I want them to have the opportunity to learn in a literacy rich environment.

My Project

The level reading books I am requesting will be a great asset to my classroom. It is very important for children to read books at a level that is appropriate for them. Many of the books that we have in our classroom are not just right for their reading level. I want my students to be able to grab a book that is at their reading level and that is engaging to them, so that they can grow exponentially in their reading. These books will allow them to do just that. I would like to continue to grow my class library so that the students have more choices when reading. The more engaged they are in what they are reading, the more excited they will get about reading and the more they will ultimately learn. I am also requesting pencils, markers and a pencil sharpener for my classroom. Currently, we do not have a working sharpener and having extra pencils will always come in handy for my students.

Supporting our class project will be a huge help to my classroom.

In order for children to get excited about reading, they need choice and they need books that are right for them. The ultimate goal is to have kids that love to read!
