My Students

I am very fortunate to teach the students of this community. They are motivated, inquisitive and really enjoy collaborating when given a project. Over the past year, parents have generously donated towards my vision of introducing STEM based chemistry and biology labs involving amazing technology that is used to gather data.

The students appreciate the opportunity to use the STEM lab equipment because it allows them to use technology while collaborating and using critical thinking to produce results which help prepare them for the future.

My Project

My biology classes will be studying the nervous systems in detail and they would truly benefit from a hands-on activity that involved testing their reflexes. Both of my biology classes are fairly large and I prefer for the students to work together in small groups; therefore, I am requesting three kits which provides a much more effective learning experience.

This kit enables students to study each other's reflexes and visually evoked reactions using clinically accepted methods and materials.

They will learn the neurological difference between a reflex and a reaction as well as the protective value of various reflex mechanisms. The kit includes decks of playing cards, penlights, reaction time rulers, timers, and reflex hammers which will all be used in effectively in small groups to test their reflexes. I think this lab is a wonderful project because it allows for them to get out of their seats and enjoy applying what they have learned regarding the central and peripheral nervous system.
