My students need opportunities to explore and interact with their environment and with one another with a book display storage kit, magna-tiles, and rhythm ribbon dance.
“Thank you for visiting our classroom page! My students are in the early childhood special education autism program. "
My students abilities and skills fall across a wide developmental range.
Realizing the diversity within this already diverse population, we are constantly modifying and differentiating various materials and curriculum to help meet the needs of our students.
Our students have many skills but we noticed some cracks within the system and we've been building programs in order to provide more opportunities for inclusion and mainstreaming. These opportunities allow our students to have peer models which in turn help them develop social, problem solving, and language skills.
These are all crucial skills which allow them to successfully function in a group so that they can belong and become a part of something bigger than themselves.
My Project
For many of my students, my classroom is their first experience with school and often times their first experience with the social and emotional learning beyond the home. We work very hard to create a warm, stimulating, and comfortable environment for our students to help foster curiosity and excitement about the world around them.
Building social skills starts slowly and my students need enticing and supportive activities to foster social development.
Through the use of stimulating games and activities such as the Haba Here Fishy Fishy game, painting with vibrant colors, or building with colorful magnatiles I am able to help encourage my students to interact with others in order to explore their environment. When I have items and activities that they find enticing, like the parachute or rhythm ribbons they are more willing to try new things and thus build new skills.
These items will help support, not only my student's social development, but also fine motor and language development. Thank you for supporting my early childhood special education autism classroom.
