Many students on the autism spectrum often have sensory processing disorders and it can be difficult to find activities or items that motivate them to interact with their environment or with others. Typically, students with autism are highly visual learners and the soft lighting and bright colors of the light table will provide gentle sensory stimulation as well as motivation for students to interact with the materials and others. Once the students are engaged with materials, adults can help facilitate social interactions amongst the children to share and trade materials. Students will be exploring colors, sharing materials, while developing language and communication skills.
