This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

SALC is a Title I school and many of our students will be first generation college students. I work with and assist our students in filling out scholarship applications and with financial aide. This process is new for many students, but I find that they appreciate the assistance with this journey.

I had one student who needed a recommendation to the college which I was happy to write, and that same student a few years later asked if I could write him a recommendation for a job.

It is an honor to have your former students come back to see you and tell you about their successes in life.

My Project

Many of our students lack the resource and knowledge to access information that will help them not only get into college. Since many of our students will be the first generation to go to college, they do not understand how the process works or what they need to do. We offer our students the resources, but in many instances it is necessary to work one on one. Having the resources to that that helps many of our students access the resources they need to be successful in order to get into college.
