Raspberry Pi 4 for Game Dev

My Students

My students love technology, love video games, and are looking for a creative outlet. I teach students from all walks of life in an urban environment. A large portion of my students are immigrants from Middle-Eastern and African countries. Many are English Language Learners. Although their backgrounds may be varied, the one thing they have in common is their love for video games. I think this would be an excellent inroad to introduce them to programming.

Many have asked about how to program video games and I'm ready to show them!

My Project

My students use technology every day, but they have very limited exposure to how software is created. I want to teach them how to create games using Javascript and specifically the Phaser library. We have already played around on the Phaser sandbox. To delve in deeply we need access to computers with more versatility than a Chromebook. These Raspberry Pi 4 machines will allow my students to jump right into programming.

This "Game Dev" club will meet after school and will be open to students from all grade levels.

My dream is that this club will reify students' mathematical knowledge and demonstrate the real-world applicability of mathematics and logical thinking.
