I love my energetic, witty, and sharp students! They come to school eager to learn and enthusiastically give their best effort each day. By the end of the year, my hope is that each of my students will be well prepared for the rigors of middle school. This means not only making sure each student has the tools they need to be an active learner, but to also have the social skills needed to interact with their peers in a positive manner. These students enjoy their classmates in collaborative learning, as well as collaborative play. They come prepared, work hard, and purpose to grow.
Even though many come from underprivileged homes, and backgrounds, they are not underprivileged in their desire to succeed.
Because of the needs of our county, our students receive free breakfast and lunch, which is indicative of the needs of our community. Our students take pride in our school, as well as each other.
My Project
My school's fifth graders are a terrific group of students, who work to their best ability daily, and are willing to learn from their mistakes. This growth mindset will help them to tackle the rigorous curriculum, but it is very hard to stay focused the entire day. In order for students to do their best work in the classroom, they really look forward to recess time every day, to take a break from academic work.
Our students have recess every day on an empty grass field, and are begging for some balls and equipment to play with.
While the students are very creative and have devised several versions of tag, they would love to have more options to choose from during this time. These football, soccer, and playground balls, as well as jump ropes, hula hoops, flying discs and other equipment would allow students options to play a game with a larger group of students, a few friends, or to have something to do on their own. No matter which they choose, every student will have an opportunity to burn off some energy and be able to refocus on learning.
