This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

"You don't have to be ridiculously gifted. You just have to be ridiculously committed." Unknown author. In my classes, I have high honors students, low achieving students and exceptional children all in the same class, and they are all looking to learn relevant skills that they can take with them outside of the classroom. Not all of my students are college bound, many of them thrive in their CTE classes, unlike standard classes, because they are career orientated and hands on. I am a firm believer that as long as a student is committed to trying their best, they will succeed.

Many of my students are also in DECA, a student lead marketing organization that competes at the regional, state and national level.

Many of them learn valuable skills that they can take with them into the workforce, a college interview and beyond. DECA gives them confidence and motivation to see the best in themselves. These students are always looking to push farther and do more to be successful.

My students are well rounded in their core subjects, as well as Career and Technical Education classes. They truly see the benefits of all classes that our school has to offer.

My Project

I am licensed in Business, Marketing and Family and Consumer Sciences. I teach various courses, such as, Personal Finance, Hospitality and Tourism, Entrepreneurship, Principles of Business and Foods and Nutrition. I am also an advisor for DECA, a student marketing organization that competes at the regional and state level. While I may not be a math or English teacher, my students are learning real world content and life skills that will help them grow into independent adults.

While my school district is great with supporting its teachers and offering opportunities, it can often be limited to our immediate area.

I would love the opportunity to attend professional development that I feel with truly help me grow as a teacher in all the courses I teach, and give me a boost as an advisor for my DECA members. I would like funds to help me attend MBA Conclave conference for Business and Marketing teachers. At this conference, DECA AMPED is also taking place, which is for DECA advisors to gain knowledge and strengthen their chapter.

This conference gives me the opportunity to meet educators, business owners and industry leaders from across the county to expand on what I know past N.C. and bring that to my students. I can meet and network with other DECA advisors and learn from their successes. In this profession, like so many, we learn so much from our peers and we become better teachers hearing others stories.
