Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Twenty-five smiling and excited first graders light up our classroom each day! My students bring incredible energy, excitement, and love each day. My students come from a diverse community and each child has a unique story. My large elementary school of over 800 students is a Title l school where most students receive free or reduced-price lunch. Even the smallest child can lead such a big life at home. I want my classroom to be a safe and motivating environment that will foster curiosity, problem-solving and drive. This will lead to true grit. My students are a teacher's heart and they are my heart!

My Project

There is a vast range of readers in my class each year, but this year with pandemic and the different learning experiences created by the pandemic, the range is far wider. I am need of resources to help me target phonemic awareness needs of my lower readers and also challenge by higher readers to use strategies for skill based reading such as inferencing and words in context. These resources will enable me to reach all the needs of my readers and help them to continue to grow as independent readers.
