My Students

My students come from all over our county. My classroom is extremely unique, as we are a self-contained, life skills focused classroom. Day in and out, we practice skills necessary to enable my students to become independent adults. My students are truly bright lights in this dark world.

A lot of people prefer labels, but I prefer to state that my students have unique sets of skills that enable them to see the world through a different lens.

Every day our sweet students give it their all. They come to school ready to learn, ready to be encouraged, and ready to train and prepare for their futures.

Our students come from a range of backgrounds, a range of neighborhoods, and an array of upbringings. However, they all have one thing in common: they love to learn. Unfortunately, there is no set curriculum for my students. There is no such thing as a single prep, as every student has a unique set of learning needs and requires a range of materials in order to be successful. The beautiful part is, they don't care if their materials are old or new but they deserve the best.

My Project

I am asking for fort-seven books. The books used in this project are for our classroom library here in our self-contained classroom. Our students independent reading level within the classroom is not at the level of reading materials that is offered in our school library. My students desperately need reading materials that they can pick up right off the shelf and read independently.

The materials listed are more geared to their levels, interests and enable them to be independent with their reading.

Being able to choose their own piece of literature will not only build their confidence in their reading skills, but it will help to sharpen their abilities as well. The power a book holds can not be matched by a price tag. The power a student can have by simply picking up a book is something that can not be mimicked or paralleled by any other force within the classroom.
