My Project

Help me give my students the opportunity to grow as confident, capable readers through access to engaging, leveled chapter books. My second grade classroom includes students with a wide range of learning needs and abilities, including students with disabilities who benefit from structured reading support, repetition, and access to appropriately leveled, high-interest texts.

Many of my students are eager readers who are developing foundational skills, while others are ready for greater challenge and deeper comprehension work.

I currently do not have enough leveled chapter books to fully support consistent novel-based instruction that meets all learners where they are.

This DonorsChoose project will provide accessible, age-appropriate chapter books that will allow students to participate in structured novel studies with appropriate supports and scaffolds. These texts will help students build comprehension skills such as identifying story elements, making inferences, analyzing character development, and using text evidence to support their thinking. For students with disabilities, repeated exposure to supported reading experiences is essential for strengthening comprehension, vocabulary, and reading confidence.

With these books, I will be able to provide differentiated instruction that supports all learners—offering scaffolding for students who need it while also extending learning for students who are ready for enrichment. Students will engage in shared reading experiences where they can discuss, reflect, and connect with texts in meaningful ways, strengthening both academic and social-emotional skills.

Most importantly, it will help them see themselves as capable learners who can think deeply, understand complex stories, and grow in confidence
