My Students

I remember sitting in college wondering why the professors had not caught up with the times!! Why were they still using an overhead projector!! Unfortunately, my students are probably thinking the same thing because we do not have enough resources to update classroom technology.

My IL public school students are very self-motivated and talented.

The student body is diverse but primarily comprised of Hispanic students. More than 60% of the student body in this school of over 4,000 are on free/reduced lunch. Most students are first generation immigrant students from Central and South America, although we have a very large Polish population as well. They are the light of my life!!

My Project

I work in a very old school building that only has one very small whiteboard for the entire classroom. It is impossible and not time efficient to have individual students come to the board and work problems out. With this smartboard technology I will be able to not only have students work problems from their seats, but I will also be able to move around the room during the class period because I will not be tied to the whiteboard in the front of the room. This will engage all students and will allow me to foster a real family feeling in my classroom. We will be able to solve problems on PowerPoint slides too, which means I won't have to switch from a whiteboard to a projector throughout the day. It will also allow me to individualize my instruction since I can have multiple students working at a time. Finally, most students thrive on technology so this is a way to bring some excitement into the classroom everyday!!

Technology excited students, plain and simple.

They are immersed in it all the time, except in my classroom! I want to be able to approach my students in a way that they can get excited about! Using this technology will get students excited about solving problems in class because it is such a fun modality. Please please!! You will be changing their lives forever!
