Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I work at a Title One School where all students receive free breakfast, lunch, and many dinner, based on their family’s income. Although we are considered a high poverty school, we are also a high academic performing school. This is due in large part to the hard work of students, teachers, parents, and staff. In order to continue on this path to success, both students and teachers need the supplies essential to do so.
This being said, asking parents to donate items is not always feasible, so teachers rely on using their own money, or using what the school has to offer to fill classes with necessary and extracurricular materials.
Unfortunately, with budget cuts each year, money has to be spread thinly and we don’t always have the supplies needed.
This is where generous people like you can help. Any donation, big or small, can make a difference in a classroom like mine. Both my students and myself thank you in advance for your contribution to education.
My Project
"No outside recess??" This is the sound of disappointment in my students voices, when a rainy day or heat wave announcement is called over the intercom. Kids love to play, be active, and have a break from the brain work that is required in the classroom.
Children who participate in physical education on a daily basis typically tend to be more physically fit, less stressed, and have healthier friendships.
For that reason I am requesting supplies to continue the fun and exercise inside the classroom when the weather does not permit students to go outside. The scarves and yarn balls can be used to help build hand eye coordination like throwing and catching. The fitdeck and dice will be used as a whole class game to explore new stretches and exercises according to the card pulled and the number rolled on the dice.
It is my hope to use these kid friendly PE materials to positively affect both the body and the mind of my students in the classroom.
