My Students

The students I teach are truly unique. They come into class each day ready to conquer a new musical challenge or create something musically unique of their own. I feel honored that I get to teach them every year and see them develop into beautiful people!

“The fact that children can make beautiful music is less significant than the fact that music can make beautiful children” - Cherly Lavender.

I love seeing my students use their brains to play, dance, create, move and collaborate with each other away from the technology that is driving us today.

My Project

I am a beginning teacher and teaching my students how to play the ukulele. My goal is to be able to teach them an instrument that they can get an immedicate satisfaction from and take it into the world and produce something nice. I wanted to be able to teach them the chords and strumming styles they may see in other places on the internet or books they look into. Rainbow Ukulele is a system of teaching the instrument in the elementary general music classroom. Students are systematically taught the history of the ukulele, the parts of the ukulele, how to tune, reading music (TAB and traditional notation), finger-style, and chords. It is a great way to have students not only learn about the elements of music but apply them. This system could easily be taught as a whole unit or spread out through other units to fit my particular program.
