Growing up, I loved to read and still do. My brother on the other hand hated it and I never understood why. As a teacher, I see both sides as well- students who love it and students who hate it. I want to offer my struggling readers with a wide variety of books that are appropriate for their level and help them to see success when reading and comprehending!
I want all students to have a passion for reading and I want to have books available for all levels of readers!
These students are a part of a small farm town in Minnesota. Each time new books arrive in my classroom there is a buzz and an incredible amount of excitement that everyone can feel! Having the ability to have a variety of books for those struggling readers helps them to have options and excitement about reading as well!
My Project
These books will give the students a chance to participate in reading groups with some fantastic books! I remember as a young student reading, and loving, some of these books such as "The Borrowers" and "The Tiger Rising".
By reading together in small groups, students hear fluent reading, get assistance with comprehension skills and are exposed to different types of books.
The books we have selected are books we know are interesting and well written. They will give us a chance to develop our readers and help them have confidence in their skills. All students all have the ability to be great readers and by having these books available for book clubs, we as teachers can help them grow to be those great readers!
