My Project

My students struggle with regrouping. At times it seems very abstract to them when they just look at the problems on paper. They need something more than just hearing about it and seeing me model how to do regrouping.

Hands-on is the way to go to help my students get a better understanding of what regrouping is and how to do regrouping.

The Really Good Stuff regrouping mats and the Lakeshore Hands-On Addition Regrouping Kit will provide all my students with materials that they can put in their hands. Being able to see, here, and manipulate numbers will help my student learn to regroup. My students with special needs and my English language learners will benefit great from having the manipulatives in their hands.

Once regrouping has been introduced in a few math lessons then some of the materials will be placed in our math centers for students to work on independently. The rest of the material will be at our horseshoe table so I can work with students who continue to struggle with regrouping.
