Radio and Books on CD for Second Grade ESL Students
My students need a radio and books on CD for their listening center.

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Each and every day, I am truly inspired by all of my second graders. They are constantly put in to very intimidating situations that sometimes, I don't think that I could ever overcome like they do. Many of my students walk into a classroom not knowing any of the English yet, but yet they each try their best to communicate with others around them. A situation that would be extremely scary for me seems to be a stepping stone for these young minds that I teach.
Majority of my students also live in poverty meaning that they live in overcrowded homes, they may not be eating regularly, and they may not have normal sleeping hours.
But, they still walk into the classroom ready to seize the day. I have learned so much from my students and all I want to do is be able to provide the best education for them. Their inspiration for learning is my inspiration for teaching.
My Project
I am requesting a radio along with books on CD to go along with my newly funded listening center. The radio and books on CD will be put with the listening center in a quiet corner of the classroom with a rug and pillows for students to relax and enjoy a read aloud. Practicing various literacy skills is very important in the young years especially with young students that speak various languages. These supplies would be a great addition to the listening center and would be greatly beneficial to all of the students in my classroom ranging from various levels.
These supplies could reinforce literacy skills that are being taught to students throughout the day.
Many of of students have families at home that speak different languages, so I believe that a radio with books on CD in a listening center would expose many of my students to the English language.
In request of this radio and books on CD, I am hoping that my students will enjoy reading while relaxing and having fun! Thanks so much!
